THE NEWS
Three very important breaking stories

JUNIOR HIGH FUNDRAISER
Did you know Faye Orlove, the creative director for this very webpaper, is opening an art space and shop in Hollywood called Junior High? There is a Kickstarter campaign currently running for the project, which ends on April 20. (lol.) “It’ll be for everyone who ever felt the art world was too expensive, too male saturated, too white, and too inaccessible,” she writes. “I want to host gallery shows, music events, comedy nights, and most importantly, community workshops like art classes and portfolio consultations for people of all ages. I want special programming for kids, especially kids living in low-income families or attending public schools that have lost arts funding. It’s vital to engage kids in the arts, and very few places in LA do that affordably.” Check out the campaign here and please donate if it's within your means! She can't do this without all of you.

DON GIOVANNI RECORDS ANNOUNCES "NEW ALTERNATIVE MUSIC FESTIVAL"
“THERE IS AN ALTERNATIVE,” proclaims the mission statement of The New Alternative Music Festival, announced last month by our friends at Don Giovanni Recs. “There is an alternative to music released and distributed by three multi-national corporations. There is an alternative to music festivals as branded experience for millennial males. There is an alternative to music steeped in sexism, racism, and homophobia. There is an alternative to corporately managed bands. There is an alternative to music as a commodity. There is an alternative to corporately run music festivals.” The fest September 16-18 in New Jersey and features many artists who contribute to The Media, or have been featured on these webpages over the years. More info about the fest here.

SXSW WAS CANCELED
SXSW was canceled. Did you hear? No one was feelin’ it this year. Pretty glad we decided to cancel our showcase. We were on the story, in case you missed it. Read last month’s live breaking report by Thor Harris.
