Bartender and all-around cool dude Johnny Allen has kept intimate live shows in Boston alive since 2008. Johnny books local and touring bands on Mondays at Zuzu under the recurring moniker Night of the Living Deadhead. A definite staple in the local music scene, Deadhead has boasted some of the most memorable sets of fuzzy synths and loud-ass kick drums with acts like Drug Rug, Viva Viva, SKATERS and Fat Creeps.
His June listings are below, and you'd be silly not to check them out. Come early to color flyers for the upcoming week's show and to talk to Johnny about Ghostbusters and his Kurt Cobain sweater. All shows are free, Mondays, 10pm, and 21+ at Zuzu in Central square.
"These tracks were chosen to tell a story. A story about summertime on the doorstep, love in the air, cheese on the pizza, grass in the pipe, bikes in the city, beers on the beach. These songs are from great people who have played Night of the Living Deadhead recently or are on the way to play soon. The story goes...
It's SUMMERTIME. Some SOVIET WAITERS SAY A LITTLE PRAYER. 'WHATEVERER.' So…BRING US SOME WAVES! The SURF BABES NOT SURFING. UNDRESS to NOTHING in a CEMETARY. ARE WE JUST DOOMED? Nahhhhh! It's ONLY FUN."
